Beginning in 2023 PBCB launched a unique sailing experience designed and taught by women, for women. Our goal is to provide sailing opportunities for those that wouldn’t normally have access or faces barriers, no experience necessary! Level 1 and 2 classes are a 4-day, hands-on sailing course that works on developing self-reliance, independence, teamwork, resourcefulness, and critical thinking skills on the water in a supportive learning environment. Level three is a one-day clinic that focuses on seamanship skills and continuing to build on the sailing experiences gained in previous courses. We welcome beginners, those returning to the sport, and returning WOW participants hoping for a challenge. Classes will begin in June and run through late August. We provide the boats, materials, and instructors. We just need you! We’ll meet for a short chalk talk lesson followed by ~2 hours of sailing on beautiful Pleasant Bay.
Beginner Sailing Opportunities
WOW Level 1
The level one course is open to any woman who has never sailed or needs a refresher, and sailors who have never sailed a Catboat. The course runs four consecutive days and is offered during the day and evenings Monday through Friday. Participants learn the basic sailing principles, the basics of varying wind and weather patterns, rigging, steering, tacking, jibbing and correct mooring procedures.
